![]() That manual is hosted on the PIN Electronics & Ramcur site, manufacturer of the Hornet – an EMS VCS3 Putney clone. In the replies to that tweet, I noticed a short video demonstrating the unusual dual envelope generator of the Synthi 100, and a search for more information on that led to a manual with a description. ![]() The BBC Archive recently shared a short film clip of Roger Limb demonstrating the EMS Synthi 100 in 1976. I’ve put the patch up on the Audulus forum. It also reminded me of look at the difference between chaos and randomness in one of his Audulus live streams almost exactly two years ago. The logistic equation outputs a constant value when k is smaller than 3, followed by a period of doubling with a second bifurcation at 3.5, chaos shortly after 3.577, and 3-step period around 3.83. It turns out to be a simple way of achieving something similar to the kind of chaos spectrum Rob Hordijk achieves with his Rungler. I had a go at putting it together in Audulus, both using the expression node as well as simply using the multiplication and addition nodes. (Some source reading on the equation can be found here.) He demonstrated how the logistic equation k*x*(1-x) might be reformulated as k*(x-x^2) so as to make it easier to patch. At the Danskmodular meet-up in Copenhagen last week Konstantine got into explaining how one might approach creating a chaos patch on an analogue modular system without using a random/chaos module. ![]() ![]() So have people genuinely hallucinated while drinking Absinthe? I am certain they have. But many of these people could have been totally drunk as well as intoxicated with all sorts of other substances. You had famous artists drinking it and writing about it. ![]() Then you have testimony, writing, and personal experiences conveyed about Absinthe. So there's that idea of some trace amount of wormwood or thujone or whatever. You would have to eat 300 pounds of grocery store mushrooms to get this effect. ![]() Grocery store mushrooms do contain the same things that "magic mushrooms" contain, only in minute quantities. But this is like saying a box of mushrooms you buy at the grocery store will do the same for you as Magic Mushrooms. Scientists and Chemists may have discovered trace amounts of things in Absinthe that they claimed were hallucinogenic. In addition to this, here's how I see it.Ībsinthe had many generations to build the reputation. Yes, over the years the hallucination myth has probably been promoted in negative and positive ways for the aim of selling Absinthe or selling alternative products. I do feel that the idea that the wine industry promoted the hallucination idea has some foundation. It didn't do this centuries ago and it doesn't do it now. Happy Australia Day!įirst off, Absinthe causes no hallucinations, at least not more than Vodka, Beer, or Whisky. Sorry for the poor wording, I am a bit hungover atm. Sometimes after using the herb I have gone about my day and questioned whether things that happened in the dream really happened.Īnyway just a theory. When dreaming, I have noticed the dreams are extremely vivid, detailed and sometimes psychedelic in nature. It relaxes you and things seem a tad bit brighter. I have noticed that the tea or smoking mugwort can bring about a very mild high. So I am thinking that they did really have these hallucinations but they were in form of dreams rather than while awake after a night of drinking and have been unable to distinguish reality from dreaming. I found out the active compound in Mugwort is Thujone which is also found in Absinthe. When you consume mugwort you can have extremely vivid and realistic dreams. I came to this conclusion because recently I have been consuming Mugwort tea as a dream enhancer in an effort to induce lucid dreaming. I think that the hallucinations came from vivid dreams after consuming the absinthe with Thujone. It's what probably peaked many of our interests and lead us to drink it in the first place. So we have all heard the whole hallucination reports or myths if you will about absinthe. While it certainly has a cinematic effect, and is exciting particularly for those who feel they’re doing something illicit by drinking absinthe, it’s by no means traditional.Hi fellow absinthe drinkers. It’s the Czech Republic that popularized the whole flaming sugar cube thing, which you’ve probably seen in a movie somewhere. Some people (myself included) prefer the slowly dripping ice water without any sugar. The traditional way to drink absinthe is by placing a slotted spoon with a sugar cube on top of a glass of absinthe, then slowly dripping ice cold water from an absinthe fountain, which slowly dissolves the sugar into the glass. You’re supposed to drink absinthe with a flaming sugar cube, right?Ībsinthe with a flaming sugar cube - Photo courtesy of iStock / Wolna And, often, the additives don’t stop at coloring agents, but often make their way into the spirit itself, often resulting in a lower-quality (if cheaper) product. The nuclear green bottles you’ll find in the Czech Republic and other parts of Europe are colored with additives. The thing to look for is that the absinthe is naturally dyed, getting any color it does have from the chlorophyll from its macerated herbs. But the thujone content of absinthe is – and always was – so low that you’d pass out or die of alcohol poisoning long before you felt those affects. Wormwood, or artemisia absinthium, the plant that gives absinthe its name, does contain a chemical compound called thujone that allegedly has hallucinogenic properties. Absinthe’s hallucinogenic properties are – and always were – mostly just an urban legend. Does today’s absinthe make you hallucinate?Ībsinthe with sugar cubes - Photo courtesy of Getty Images / rez-art One giveaway is often the color, but more on that later. That said, you can also buy absinthe that Edgar Allen Poe probably would have considered sacrilege. You can buy absinthe today that is ingredient-for-ingredient identical to the absinthe they used to make back when Van Gogh sliced his ear off. In Switzerland, however – the exception to the rule – you can only label your product absinthe if it's distilled, uses no natural coloring and is absent of certain additives. ![]() We propose a novel partition strategy for web-scaled graphs in the shared-nothing distributed environment to efficiently support the pairwise shortest path estimation We highlight the contribution of our work as follows: We apply our methods to two types of online graph queries: distance join and vertex set bonding, which captures interesting graph patterns and structure-wise prominent vertices, respectively. In this work, we study both effective distance estimation and efficient graph exploration for shortest path discovery. ![]() Therefore, answering online selective graph queries with a combination of light-weight indices and fast graph exploration makes it a feasible solution with respect to both time and space efficiency. However, effective generic index structures for adhoc graph queries are space-consuming and involve a long setup time. Various graph indexing techniques have been proposed to speed up the query evaluation, like the embedding technique introduced in GStore for efficient SPARQL query processing, independent set-based labeling, the distance oracle approach and etc. In an extreme case, if graph G is a social network, and the distance between u and v is five, a shortest path query evaluation much likely leads to an entire graph visit due to the six-separation law. For example, to find out the shortest path(s) from vertex u to v, a naive BFS would access a large number of vertices in the graph to answer the query. However, one fundamental issue is the unbounded nature of graph queries which often leads to poor computation locality. Therefore, effective distance estimation as well as efficient shortest path retrieving are essential for online graph queries. Other examples like influential maximization, or adaptive betweenness calculation and etc., are all based on the shortest path semantic. For example, one popular way to define the similarity of two vertices in the network would be the similarity of their distance vector to a number of pre-selected vertices. Graph queries using the shortest path or shortest path distance semantic are widely used in practices. In this work, we study the problem of answering shortest path distance-based selective graph queries in a online fashion, such that ad hoc queries of such type can be answered promptly. However, online graph query which finds various applications in real practice does not attract much research effort, especially the highly selective queries which has an limited output size. More efficient generic graph processing frameworks, like the subgraph-centric model, are emerging to accelerate the graph analytic task. With the generic vertex-centric model applied to practices, there has been a huge advancement in large-scale graph analytic tasks, e.g. The tremendous size of real-world graph data raises series of challenges in efficient graph management and query processing. We discuss how the solution can be applied to two types of research problems, distance join and vertex set bonding, which are distance-based graph pattern discovery and finding the structure-wise bonding of vertices, respectively. ![]() The essential intuition is to build a distance-aware index for online distance-based query processing and to eliminate redundant graph traversal as much as possible. In this work, we present our solution methodology for online selective graph queries based on the shortest path distance semantic, which finds various applications in practice. Although there have been emerging efforts on managing large graphs in a distributed and parallel setting, e.g., Pregel, HaLoop and etc, these computing frameworks are designed from the perspective of scalability instead of the query efficiency. It becomes even difficult when a graph is too large to be fit in the memory. For information on hash tables, run Get-Help about_Hash_Tables.Performing online selective queries against graphs is a challenging problem due to the unbounded nature of graph queries which leads to poor computation locality. To create the parameters described below, construct a hash table containing the appropriate properties. Once radio did start playing it, there was no looking back.
